Ok I am so happy I found these forums. I am 18, and I came to america LEGALY with a green card about 10 years ago, after my 5th year here, my family got the applications to become citizens, but we never got around to actually doing it.. i don;t even know where they are now. I just heard that the prices are going up AGAIN.

Guys, PLEASE help me get this done. WHERE do i go? What application do i get? this is for my mom/dad and my brother and I. 4 people. How much will it be?

I need to do this before the prices go up again.

Hi Jack,
You are right the fees are increasing and time to mail is this weekend or earlier. The process is simple, a completed and signed N400 form for each person above 18, 2 photos , front/back copies of greencard and checks for $400 per person. If your brother is under 18 then he can get his n600 after your parents take their oaths and become citizens.
You can get the forms and filling instructions from www.uscis.gov . Read the permanent posts on the top of the 1st page of this forum. Do some search of the FAQs.
You can and should do the mailing by this Saturday. It is a simple process and you should hurry.

With just a few days left, I am afraid it is very difficult though you could theoretically do it if you have all the information to fill in the N-400 forms (assuming your brother is over 18) and these are straight forward cases.

However, I am afraid you will make errors if you do not take your time which can be very detrimental. There will be a lot of questions on the way and it may take time to get the answers. Multiply this 4 times and you can see that you will most probably be working full time on this to beat the clock.

You cannot make any errors on this as it will cost you dearly, in extreme cases, even leading to deportation.

Here are the basic steps:

1. N-400 form

You will find the instructions/guide for this form (M-476):
http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/us...nnel=96719c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Read this very very carefully and make sure you understand the questions and answer thruthfully.

Once you go through the form, you will have more questions. You can get them answered here.

still have time

You have time till saturday, and if you put some effort into it, you should be able to finish it.

Be truthful, if you make a honest mistake, USCIS will forgive you. But if you lie and get caught, it can lead to bad things.

just like the others said, there will be a lot of qn's. if you read thru the sticky on the top of this forum, most of them will be cleared. Feel free to ask and people on this forum are really nice and knowledgeful.

Wow thanks for all the replys guys.
I went ahead and read most of the instruction/guide you provided.
Then I printed the 10 page N-400 form.
Im stuck on Part 10 Section G. I am 18 and my brother is 20, but neither of us are enrolled in the selective service or whatever #33 is about..
do i need to register here?
https://www4.sss.gov/regver/register1.asp

Do i mark yes or no for #33? Im a lawful immigrant right? I came to the US with a green card, and I was born outside of the US, so im a lawful immigrant right?

Please help me out.

or should I mark NO

Yes you will both need to register with the SSA.

For now, I would go with the truthful answer on the N-400 (i.e. that you are not registered), but in parallel with mailing the application, you should also get yourself registered, so you can show the IO during interview that you have taken care of your obligations. Since you are only 18, I don't think this will cause you much trouble - not sure if the same can be said for your brother since he is already 2 years into the registration period.

I believe you have to answer YES to 33. I believe the link you provide for selective services is the right one, and I think you (and your brother) should go ahead and register. I have no idea how quick you can get the registration number back. If you get it in time before sending your application you can include this in the N-400. Otherwise you can provide this information during interview. This is a black mark, but it is not the end of the world as far as I have seen in this forum in the past. People who are beyond registration age get a status letter from selective services, but you and your brother who are still in age to register should do soon (today?)

Good luck.

Right. Mark on the form that you haven't registered, then go out and register. At the interview, tell the truth: that you honestly didn't know about your obligation, but that you went out and fulfilled it as soon as you found out.

If you can afford to wait (I know you want to do this soon becos of fees)...but if you can afford to wait, go ahead and register with SS and then once you get the numbers, mail it in. Which means you have to do it with new fees, but you are CLEAR then.

If you get a registration confirmation screen/message, I would recommend you to print it out and keep it so you have some documentation ready for the interview.

wow

thanks for all the replys guys, i just went to that sss.gov site to register, and after i clicked "submit", I got this message.

"Our records indicate that you are already registered.....

haha im so happy. I went ahead and printed it out for my records.. and i have no clue how this happened, maybe my highschool subbmited my info? or maybe when I applied for financial aid for college, they enrolled me in this too?
who knows im happy and Im going to go ahead and finish this application.

Ill keep you posted if I encounter more problems.

Take care.......

Get every one of your application proof read as many times as you can. As you are preparing 4 applications there is a great chance that you might mix things up.

Do not forget to put the correct signature in the last page (Part 11 onlyor Part 12 if applicable).

Send separate checks for each ($400/person), put in separate envelopes (if you want, these in one large -- but risky if it gets lost/misplaced as all the application will be lost) and send using certified mail with return receipt.

You might want to confirm the post mark date - somebody posted it as July 28th...

hey

hey so any last minute tips before i mail these out tomorrow?
Im mail all 4 in different envelopes.
in each envelope is the 10 page application, 400 dollar check, and 2 pictures..

do i need to put copies of SSC? green card? ids? anything ? thank you so much guys.

Definitely photocopy of both sides of green card, this is pretty much mandatory. That's the minimum. You can take the social security card with you to the interview, don't put a photocopy of it in the envelope.
Congratulations on having done this in record time ;) Good luck.

I used USPS's certified mail with return receipt which can be tracked online.

Congratulations on getting this done.

You do need to include photo copy of both sides of GC. In addition, you need to write A# on back of cheque and
photo with pencil.

Do google on document checlist for N-400
