What does my boyfriend and I have to do to get married and obtain his citizenship?

Hi,
My boyfriend is illegal from an overstay on a student visa from 1999. We have lived together for the past 2 years and have recently decided to get married.

My question is what exactly do we need to do to allow him to be a citizen? Should we get married first and file paper work later, or start the process before hand? Also how much and how long does this process usually take? We live in Florida.

umm..if you are a US Citizen, get married, prepare paperwork, send out the paperwork with $$, wait.
