Cancellation of Indian Passport

Hi,
This morning I went to th CGI-Houston's Dallas camp to check if they can cancel my Indian passport. I reached there around 8:45 AM. There were about 700+ people there and the tokens were almost out. I was given token # 691.
Just out of curiosity, I went in to talk to the person at the enquiry counter. I wanted to check what the process was to cancel the passport. When I asked him the question, he just asked me for my passport(s) (Indian and US), took it inside and came back with a stamp on the indian passport "cancelled without prejudice". I was out by 9:10 AM.
I thought this might be of help for the local Dallas area residents who are struggling to find information to cancel indian passports.


PS: Before I cancelled the passport, I made a copy of the entire passport booklet.

Now onto OCI.

I am going to be begining my OCI process in the next day or 2 - just wondering what the process is to cancel the Indian passport.

- Can I submit the OCI appl. before actually cancelling the pp? If so, is it okay to send copies of the Indian pp without the "cancelled" stamp?

- I plan on going in person to CGIH to get the U-sticker - can I do it at the time as getting the U-sticker?

You can submit OCI before cancelling Indian PP. OK to send copies of Indian PP without "Cancelled" stamp.

Yes you can cancel Indian PP at the time of getting U-Sticker on US PP.

That's what I did for my OCI at CGI,NY.

Thanks MasterUSA. Now, I just hope this formality is same across the board for all CGI's
