Should I apply for EAD (I 765)?

Case History:

H1 B married to USC
Submitted 130 and 485
completed interview (2 wks ago). waiting for background check to complete (DO: San Antonio)

me and my spouse live separately and we want to start living together. inorder to apply for jobs, I need an EAD. (EAD itself takes 30-60 days based on current timing)

Should I wait for my GC to come through or apply for the EAD?

if i wait for 30 days and then apply then i have to wait for 60 more days before getting EAD. hence was trying to evaluate what would be a sensible option.

There is no guarantee that your name check will be done in the next 90 days. So if I were you, I'd buy a money order for $180 and mail the application for an AED. That's the only way you can guarantee yourself you'll be earning an income after day 90 (or earlier).

I am in the same boat and I applied and got my EAD. Eventhough my H-1B is still valid. Just as a back up.

Can we apply online or do we have to send the paper? looking through the instructions it looks like we need to apply on paper,,,
