Same reasons, dear!

I never really wanted to emigrate. The company I work for sent me to the US a few years ago. Now a green card will be a big help for me as I cannot search for a job in another company with the visa that I have.

Because i believe in the USA!
I believe in the millions of people that they feel the need to make it a better country.
USA believed in us, so it is time to do something back.
I believe that we all can live together without any issues, because we all want the same thing. Working for the nation,
working for the future, providing a better future for our and your children.
It's time to leave the past behind us! There were many bad things done in the past. So as a young white guy, i feel ashamed
for all the bad things that were done. Every white men has this inside him or her.
We are all people, we need to live together! We need to build together! We need to let go bad things from the past together!
We need to respect each other! We need to teach each other.

Think about all this stuff guys, WE NEED TO BUILD BACK UP THE NATION THAT PROVIDED US THIS CHANCE! ! !
Within 20 years from now, i want to see a better nation!

Now, my story. I live in Europe. Where i raised up there were never troubles. Now because (may be) of the crisis, we see our country changing in a bad way. We have a good social system, but many immigrant rely on the system. I feel they want to take us back. We allready see troubles in major cities, riots, thefts, dealing. And our government is doing nothing!
Can we blame the people who are doing this? No! We can blame our governments because they lack on self respect, respect for the nation, respect for us (the people), for are ancestors, and so on,...
Only respecting their financials, their income. The country where i live is changed!

I can't see this anymore, Europe is becoming a hell! I've been twice to the US, and i believe that they will overcome the recession!
Now (when we get the chance!) it's upon us, to make it, to do what i mentioned above!
Helping each other out of the mess. We allready took the first step, we all speak (or at least TRY) English.

I believe in you guys!

all the best and good luck! From Belgium!

TOO many north african in Belgium right ?

If you have a problem with social services, then USA will be great for you because government support is very limited here compared to Europe. As you probably know already, not only the U.S. government won't support new DV immigrants, it actually requires you to show that you have the means to support yourself when you get here.

Definitely doing it for the children. After growing up the way i have, always having to work harder than everybody else, i would like to work even harder to make it easier for my children to make a positive difference in this world.

We have many North Africans, but that's not the problem. The problem is that our government lacks to do anything on the situation.
And the situation is hard for natives, especialy to see your country totally changing into a getto.
Everybody has the right to live where they want to live, but nobody has the right to force the natives to pay for them.
Our government should be more strict! That's the problem.
In US everybody has the change to make it, at least as they can make it on their own, not relying on other things.
(In USA)We are forced to make it, forced to be hard, forced to show the best in ourselves.
If i should win, i guess that i will need to have a very huge amount of money. We have a hard crisis, many people searching a job.
So i have to be realistic, and i should try to at least more than a year depending on myself.

The situation in our country is simillar, but not because the immigrant people...The high qualificated people earn 500 euro/month!!! We are living in eastern europe, there are many truoble here so we must to move to west for many reason...
The western countries do not do anything in the past 20 yrs to save the eastern countries, they just see their destroy years by years.

I agree with you Europe in a huge trouble!!!!

Where do you come from, i know a lot of people from Eastern Europe. My girl next door was from Poland, she lives here now for allready 8 years i guess, the situation and the earnings in her country is bad. I can really understand why she came to our country.
500 Eu/month is 3 times lower than what we earn. The life here is very expensive too, but at least you can do more with that money.
Also, i see that many firms are moving from West to East, so may be in the future it will be much better over there.
But we live now, and now means that it is very hard.

Hey Juicee, i saw it. It's not required to answer my question.;) I saw your are from Hungary!
I know many people from your country who are living in Cyprus. They try to earn their income by working
in hotels and bars. regards

Well, I hate to tell you this, but unemployment is still a bit high here in USA. Good jobs are not easy to come by even for Americans with good U.S. education, so it's gonna be even harder for you guys in the beginning.

Most of you will start with tough jobs in restaurants & bars for minimum wage of about $7.25 an hour. If the job is full-time and you get 40 hours a week, it's $290 a week, which becomes about $230 after taxes. A lot of companies in USA work people as part-time employees, because that way they can avoid giving you health insurance. So, if they give start you with 25 hours a week, you'll earn about $181 a week ($145 after taxes).

I realize everything is relative, so this might not look so bad for you. However, you also need to consider health care. One of the biggest problem here is health care. The cost of hospitals, doctors, and medicine is very high yet there's virtually no government program unless you're a government employee, a military veteran, or a retiree. You will not be able to afford insurance yourself until your employer put you on a group plan, and even then it might still not be affordable because companies don't generally give generous subsidies to their part time workers. For your starting job you can expect to pay $50 a week if you want insurance coverage, and at that rate the deductible (the cost you pay the doctor yourself) would be high.

Without insurance you're only an accident away from bankruptcy. I got into a minor accident and had to spend a night at the hospital, and it cost me about $10,000. Without insurance that bill would have hurt me more than the accident.

I don't mean to scare you all, just trying to give a better picture of the situation here so you know what to expect. You should do a little research from now on to find the kind of jobs you're mostly qualified for (try monster.com), what city & state is better (Southern states are cheaper to live in), etc.

That's why some DV winners came back to Europe broke and bitter, at first they thought that everything is different and possible but soon they realized that it's no better than Europe and difficult for newcomers to find the same level of life they used to have. They spent all their savings and never succeeded to find something decent and no help from the government.

Hexa, I agree with your post. Yup, they are realistic possibilities/facts. In fact, my husband and I were talking about these issues just yesterday. I'm not sure if he would want to give up his job here (no income tax), our nice home to which is almost paid off (real property tax is not applicable) to go to the US to face uncertainties. Ironically, upon a recent visit to the states, I wanted to return home after 3 days. Trust me, our eyes are opening more and more to realities that were overlooked. But I am only hanging around to see the outcome of tomorrow. I would love to see some of our friends on this forum selected in round 2. But afterwards, I won't be returning to this forum. We will continue to use our privilege of visiting the US whenever we want (even without a visa!).;)

Further, as it relates to health care, I saw somewhere that a law will be passed that requires all US citizens and LPRs to obtain health care insurance. If not, they will have to pay a fine. The USA isn't what it used to be. But yes, everything is relative. :)

This is the most honest and good advice ever. I live in Europe and I have a steady career; as much as I would love to live in the US; I still tread carefully.

I want to move to the US because I love the country; better houses than UK, friendlier people, I love the education system, the diversity, the weather in some states and the fact that there is a lot of things to do in the US, leisure wise. I went on holiday 2 years ago and I fell in love with NY, I didn't want to come back so in 2011 I took part in the lottery and didn't win. I won last year and I think it is fate, I pray things go well for me and get there and get the life I expect to get.

I knew a french guy without health insurance, he had a part time job in a real estate agency in NY. One weekend he simply badly sprained his ankle while he was playing soccer. They called an ambulance he went to the emergency room, they took x-rays, then he saw foot specialist they put a splint and gave him crutches. A few days later bills came, the total was around $8000! The hospital put him in collection and wipe him out. He discovered what the term "medical debt" meant. A word that doesn't exist in his country.

Good posts guys, many people think that USA is still what it used to be like in the 90s, but things have changed.
Now there is just poor of rich. It will not easy to live overthere, but it's all up to your self. Try to gather a lot of money so that you can overcome the first months, or may be years. Try to learn as many things as you can in those times.
May be you should allready now! Be prepared, this is necessary, once you are there it's up to you!
