We are planning to go to India in November/December. We are eligible for N400 filing by Nov 26th (that would be 90 days ahead of 5 years). I am not sure if get a fingerprint letter in a month or less. We have to send papers to NSC and we are in Midwest where processing is supposed to be quick (that means NOT chicago. he he).

So is it not better to come back from Desh and then send application? Or do I first file, go to Desh and come back and wait for everything? TIA

Now a days I do not remember my old posts. Did I post this before? Hmmmm.:D

FILE AND GO. If everything else is in order Why wait ? If you come back and file this trip too will be counted...

How long is ur trip? The residency requirements still apply here

hey,

so u finally decided that its worth applying eh? Is that due to your optimisim or realism?

Huh sir. Yes want to do it anyway, whatever happens ! :)

Well I should say it is due to "circumstances." Neither optimism (never had it so far) nor realist (Always been one so far). Let us see how things go. The trip is for 4 weeks at the most. Thanks.

My opinion: FILE AND GO TO DESH

If it is 4 wk trip, there is no problem. You should file just 4-5 days before you leave for the 4 wk trip. It will normally take 10-14 days to get the receipt or acknowledgement from BCIS. Then there would be atleast ( I can safely assume ) 10-15 days gap before you get the notice for FP. The FP interview date will be about 14-21 days ( aleast) after you get the notice. In any case , if you miss the date of FP, tthey offer you some additional dates in the same notice( like any wednesday or friday after the FP date in next 6 wks or somtng like that).
Even though thye do not give that option in writting , they almost always accomodate you on a day after you missed your FP date.
So, do not worry, just file N 400 and go to desh for 4 wks.

To add to my earlier post:
Do have someone check your mails in your absence and to inform you by phone of BCIS mails.
