Our GC finally got approved today after a loooong wait.

Our EAD was about to expire tomorrow. We went to Arlington office on 27th Jan. They gave us appointment for 11th of Feb. If we hadn't got our GC approved, we would have been out of status.

Today I checked the status online as usual and was extremely happy to see our case being approved.

Just because your EAD expires, it doesn't mean that you become illegal or out-of-status. You just can't work without it.
Once you've filed I-485 and got the receipt notice, you are in a period of stay authorized by the Attorney General until you hear the decision.
