Would this be possible?

My fingerprint expired earlier this month. Everything is clear but the fingerprint is not up to date as I called TSC to confirm. Instead of waiting for fingerprint notice, I just went directly to local ASC as suggested by some forum members to get new fingerprint done.

To my surprise, local ASC poeple told me that you have done your fingerprint a week ago. However, I never did. That officer even show their internal printout to prove that a new fingerprint check request was sent to FBI and received results back the same day last week. I was speechless and they said since I have my fingerprint up to date I don't need to have another one.

This is so wierd. The only possibility is that USCIS resent fingerprint check to FBI using my old fingerprints. Is this possible? If so, would that be a new internal measure to deal with fingerprint check? We all know people's fingerprints won't change for a long time. Is this a new way of saving cost internally in USCIS?

Anyone has similar experience? It is just so wierd.

I read about USCIS plan to digitize and store fingerprints results. I don't know if that has gone into effect but this will greatly improve this part of the whole process.

I went for Infopass for the same reason. My fingerprints expired in Sept. The IO told me I am fine since as per her system it shows my finger prints are good for anlther year!

how do you guys know that FP is expired? ... thinking too much... If they are expired or what ever reason, if they need them the USCIS will send you notice to go FP.

Fingerprint expires after 15 months. From your last fingerprint date, you can tell if it is expired or not.

u dont need to track it yourself

You dont have to go and voluntarily give the fingerprints...
thats too much worrying..
When uscis needs them, they will send u a notice.
I did my 2nd FP more than 30 months after first one only after
getting a FP notice.
Religiously going for FP on your own won't make any difference.

Yes. I exactly had similar experience...Just not so from ASC but when I spoke with IO at TSC. I simply called to check status on my case on 10/04/2007. I wanted to find out if my NC is cleared. To my pleasant surprise my NC was cleared in July 07. Then I mentioned about my expired FP's. She said we received your FP's 4 days ago. Which ofcourse I did not give. I had not done FP since Mar 06. I told her I never did FP on Sep 29 '07. she burst out laughing. She said that she had seen and heard all kinds of stories at INS/USCIS but never seen anything like mine before. She further mentioned that the case does not require anymore FP's because the file says FP's current. My guess is that this is some internal process where if they feel they dont need FPs again, simply update the file with FP received. I think this is a software workaround for FP's "Not needed".

Can you please provide details of your case?

It is good for me if it is true

It would be a relief for me if it is true. My FP expires soon, and I am planning trip overseas.
