Hello Everybody,
I'm nearing 485 approval. I recently got laid off. I will be moving from the east coast to west coast soon. I will be giving the change of address to INS and file the AR-11 form. I'm a bit nervous and want to know if this change of address would transfer my case from Vermont to California center and cause furthur delay for my 485 approval.
Thanks

Hi Buddy,

Recently my friend got layed off and he didnt change address, even though he moved to different state, and and his greencard got approved. I advice you if you are close to approval, please dont Notify INS about your change address and try to keep your current address same. If you change address, and INS officer might supicious, beacuse either you might get layed off or your change role and responsibilites. There are chances he will tranfer Local INS in california or He will issue RFE. Try to keep old address until your greencard approved.

You might get transferred

Hi,

To answer your question from my experience, I moved from NJ to MA in Feb 2002. I filed for 485 for myself and spouse on Aug'01 from NJ at NSC. I got an RFE in Nov'02 for employment/status verification. after I replied to the RFE, they transferred my case to Boston Local Office on Jan 7th 2003.

This might not be the case with everyone. But for you, you have 2 options. One is to keep the current address as your residence address till you get you green card and maybe fly-in-out for work. Or Yuo can move to the new address and notify INS of the address change. Have you lawyer change the address at the Service Center and you file AR-11 individually for yourself and all the dependents. Send AR-11 by registered mail with return receipt to have a provable document. Play it safe.

Also notify INS of the change of employer and make sure your new job responsibilities/title/salary has a very close match with your old one and your salary is more that the salary stated in the labor certification. Local transfer is not bad. Its just adds more time to the already prolonged process. Sometimes it can work favourably to you if you get transferred to a faster local office.

Good luck,

Toughdba.
