Working without Current H1

I was with a small company on H1 visa on a software project. Due to inappropriate payouts, I had to end my relationship with this company. Can I continue to work on the same project till I find a new H1 sponsor (which will be few days)?

It's the employer that counts, not the project. Once you are not with the employer, you are out of H1B status. You should have found a new sponsor and transfer the H1B before leaving the company. However, I don't know how this works if the company was not paying you the salary from the LCA. I know you can complain to DOL, but I don't think that this would entitle you to quit and still be in status.
