working overseas?

I applied for my citizenship, and I am still waiting for my name to clear up. There is a job offer in an American international school (private) that I would like to apply to. My question is it possible to work overseas while I am waiting for my citizenship or would that be a problem? I know you can't stay more than 6 months overseas, if I do come every 6 months for a short visit would that work? Thanks a lot.

You are considered a permanent resident while your citizenship application is pending. So you have to maintain your permanent residency requirements during that time. I have seen several debates on the topic of whether GC stays valid by making a trip to USA every 6 months or so and I do not think there is a clear agreement. In my opinion staying outside the country for so long, consistently, is a risky bet. You have to at some point show that all of these trips are temporary in nature.

Hope this helps.

If the Amrican Intl School belongs to a US company or organization, I think it's OK. Your best bet is to check with INS since you have to fill out some paperworks with them if you plan to stay out of country for more than 6 months.

Before I applied for citizenship, I left US for 1 year and I did not tell INS about it before my departure. When I came back from US, I just show immigration the proof that I work for a US company overseas and they let me in with no question ask.

I think the important thing is (1) you need to accumulate enough residency within the last 5 years (2) work for a US company/organization if you plan to work overseas for more than 6 months

I am on the same boat. I got my greencard back in 2001 through employment and shall be able to apply for citizenship in June. I just got an offer from my company that I can not resist. I am going to work oversea as head of a department. Here is my question:

1. My wife will still stay in US until we got the citizenship. Therefore, we will still have a permanent residence here. What I heard after is that if you work for a US company, you shall be able to apply citizenship as long as you stay long enough in US. The requirement of 6 months absence does not apply. Am I correct.

2. As I understand, there are three times I need to be present at the INS: fingerprint, interview, oath. Is it possible to have the fingerprint done the US embassy oversea?

3. When I file the application, shall I mention that I am working oversea for a US company because I won't be in US at the time of filing.

Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
