working on expired OPT

sorry if this has already been discussed; i'm new and i couldn't go through all the threads before posting.

my question is, if i work on an expired OPT, will ICE ever find out? my goal is to work and save as much as i can and leave the US for good. i've asked a couple of friends and they said that IRS doesn't care as far as you pay your taxes, and USCIS will find out only if you go to renew your status.

thanks in advance.

What you are planning to do is both morally and legally wrong, and very few people here, if any, would support you.

The IRS do indeed only care about you paying your taxes, because that is their job.

Whether CIS/ICE find out about you is a different matter. They may not, but there are several scenarios where they could, for example if you were arrested for any offence. Also, having overstayed, it will be hard for you to return to the US without lying or being caught.

you do know that if your company files h1b for you. Your OPT is automatically extended for 17 months.
