As a canadian I can have concurrent TN1s for multiple jobs. Once I file my I-485... then can I work as a contractor for another company? This is given I can no longer be on a TN1 for exemple. It wouldn't make sense to have a green card application restrict my buisness opportunities.
Actually this would respect the spirit of any application which is pending:
For exemple if one files to port their H-1B to another company, the processing takes several months, yet you can start working for a new employer.
Likewise, a pending I-485 approval would only be rejected if one has a bad disease (AIDS) or has commited a crime. At that point it does not have any relation to the job itself.
What I am talking here is basically start enjoying the same freedom as one with a GC would have. The I-140 is tied up to a particular job... fine! But I can also start working as a contractor for someone else?
So no port would be needed as I would still work for my original sponsor, but I could earn more money being also a contractor.
