Working as Freelancer for non-US Company while in US on H1-B?

I am currently working full time under H1-B, and has just applied for Green Card as well as file H1-B extension.

A company back home asked me to work as an independent contractor for a one-time interpretation job (4 days) at a well-known institution in the US. This has nothing to do with my current job under H1-B.

Apparently, the company back home is a subcontractor for another company in the US.

So it looks like the US institution will pay for my service to a US translation company, who in turns pays a foreign company. I will be paid by that foreign company. (Sorry if this is confusing.)

Will I be jeopadising my H1-B status and Green Card by accepting this freelance job? I really want to take the job, not just for money, but also because it sounds very interesting.

- Does H1-B prevents me from moonlighting for a non-US company?
- Would it be legal to work for a non-US company while physically in the US with H1-B?

Is this worth taking the risks?

Thank you for your help. I appreciate all your answers and suggestions. But please make a note in your answer if you are not a lawyer, or not very sure.
