Work and F1 visa

Hi.
I need to work and continue studying. I undestand you can work up to 20 hrs per week.
Is there any restriction in terms of the type of jobs you can get? Do they have to be related to the area of your studies?
I already have a SS#, and I understand I can't work without authorization from the ISS. How do I get that authorization?

How long do they take to process my request for authorization?Can I start working even before getting their answer?

Under some circumstances you do not require INS authorization for F1 employment. Contact the school's international students' advisor for details. Also under some instances, the work need not be in the ares of study.

But if INS approval is needed, then you have to wait until you get it. How long it takes depends on the service center (look for I-765 times) but probably a couple of months.
