Wonderful Experience With Io

Hi all:
I have visited this great site many times and got very helpful info. I would like to share my experience.

My case was transferred to TX and I changed my address so I missed the letter. I have been waiting and waiting after I got my FP/Med done.

On my B'day I got a call from the local office and the officer told me that he was amazed that why my case hasn't yet been approved.
The IO who was working on my case, left on vacation and this other IO was working on his files. He found out that when Nebraska INS transfer my case they misplaced my original I-485 and he asked me to submit another one so that he can process my GD. I had my adrenaline rush and I printed out the form and went straight to the local office and IO personally came down to meet me and looked at the form and said, that's what we were missing!!! It was late in the evening but IO processed the application same day. Then, IO called me in the morning and told me that I'll be receiving the welcome notice in a day or two.

I was amazed with the customer service that my local INS office provide. We talked couple of times and IO is very friendly, helping and caring. That IO explained everything in detail, which is amazing how this whole system works :)

I guess the key to getting all your papers is "don't procrastinate" and act ASAP so that they get what they need :) from you!!!

I was really happy cuz it was my b'day and that's the best gift I ever got on my b'day :) I got my GD in 3 days!!! :D

Now, my question is :::

1. My GD has one yr backdate so does that mean I'll become eligible to apply for my Citizenship after 5 yrs of residency in US and it'll take 4 yrs to get it??? :confused:

2. I've 8 & 11 y/o niece & nephew and I am the guardian; I wonder if I can apply for them cuz I have been their guardian since 2002 and thinking of adopting them. I am just curious how does that thing work? Currently they are back home! :confused:

Thanks to all great people & friendly forum.

I believe as a GC holder you will not have much luck bringing them in (they will fall in the GC-holder's relative categoy which now has LONG wait time.) But you can adopt them now and apply for immigration, and when you become a US citizen in 4 years they will move to a different priority date and can come over very quickly.

I forgot what the maximum age for adoption is, but if its 16, applying now may help you avoid that.

Good luck
