Withdrawl of 485

Hello:

I am planning for marriage in next one year.
If I apply for 485 before Aug 17 and meanwhile if I want to withdraw my 485 to prevent the approval, can I do that?

You can, but doing that could mean not being able to reapply for years, depending on how the priority dates move.

If you are in EB2 or EB3, and are from India or China, you probably won't become eligible to be approved within the next year anyway, due to the upcoming retrogression.

Hey Jack.. do you know if the I-485 processing queue is in order of labor PD or I485 RD?

I see no way how RD could be used to process the queue. Of course, in case of EB2 India, PERM cases were approved before BPC cases, which were stuck in labor certification and then in retrogression. Filers under Perm were able to send in their I-140+I-485 before retrogression kicked in Sep 2005 and after getting "fastest" labor approval after Apr 2005. They had their FPs done, name check cleared and everything else done between Sep05 and Jun07. Thus, when USCIS opened doors for EB2 - India in Jun07 and Jul07, they were approved as USCIS did not even receive apps from BPC candidates who had PDs much much earlier, but had labor approved only after Sep 05 (after retrogression).

Just my logical analysis.

Once your PD is current, it doesn't seem to matter how old or new the PD is. They operate randomly, except with some weak trends based on RD (generally somebody whose I-485 has been pending for a couple of years would have a better chance of being approved soon than somebody who just filed the 485 two months ago, since the older case would have had more opportunity to have its processes completed. But there is no strict pattern).
