Withdrawing Citizenship application

I had my citizenship interview couple of weeks ago though i passed the civics test, the officer could not finalize my decision and asked for more evidence(like ) Tax records, Bank accounts. lease agreements with both of our names. Problem is i have not filed joint return with my wife the past couple of years, is it possible for me to withdraw the application for Naturalization and reapply maybe in 3 years when i must have fulfilled all the requirements and if so what are the ramifications of doing that?

You can amend past tax returns up to a few years back - this may be a better option? is there a time limit for you to submit the evidence?

If you do decide to withdraw the application there is no negative ramificatio.

They want me to submit more evidence by the 10th of January 2020. I initially filed as head of Household, i have to amend it but l will owe a lot after amending it and i don.t have the money to pay for it. So i just feel like to take my time and do it right and get myself ready for it in a year or two, my fear was about withdrawing he application.

It sounds like filing separately with one of you being Head of Household saved you taxes compared to filing jointly. If so, that is a very good reason for filing the way you did, and you simply need to give that reason as why you filed separately. They usually expect people to file jointly because filing jointly almost always results in lower taxes, so filing separately might lead to questions about why; but if filing separately results in lower taxes in your case, then you are expected to file that way, and it does not mean any issues with your marriage. They do not expect you to file jointly if it is disadvantageous tax-wise.

If you filed as head of household I am sure your spouse might have filed as single which cannot go well with tax law. Was there any specific reason you picked as head of household & did you qualified all conditions required to file head of household ?

Oh right, I just remembered that Head of Household requires that you be unmarried, or have lived apart from your spouse the last half of the year (or your spouse was a nonresident alien for some part of the year, which is not true here), and that might be problematic for the living in marital union condition of naturalization under the 3-year rule. So you might have to change it to Married Filing Jointly or Married Filing Separately.

She owed a lot of Taxes and i did not want to be involved with paying the IRS, long story short i should have filed separately. but my concern for now is i don't have enough time to deal with the IRS before the 10th of January, so i want to withdraw the application and refile later when i must have sorted out my tax issues. i was just wanted to find out if there were any ramifications to withdrawing the application.
