Withdrawal of GC petition

I am working with a multinational corporation, travelling and working in different countries every 2 - 3 years. I am an Indian citizen. My sister had filed a petition for my GC in Jan 2002 while I was assigned in India. I am currently in UK and will come to work in the US in October on an L-1 visa.

I understand that to retain a GC I will have to reside in the US permanently after receiving it. With my current job this will not be possible ... because financially and responsibility-wise I will not get a similar job in US. Hence I have decided to withdraw the GC petition that my sister had filed last year. I cannot find any information regarding this withdrawal process anywhere. I would appreciate if any of you could advise what the process for this is.

Also, in case I withdraw my petition will that in any way affect a non-immigrant visa application for me or my family ? Recently my 6-month old son's non-immigrant application got rejected because of the GC application.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Arindam.
