with AP to Canada, need visa and surrender I-94 card?

Canada Trip

Went to Canada in April first week.
1. Visiting visa is required if not a GC holder
2. They took my I-94 on the way back and gave new I-94
3. They took passpoer and papers, they made me sit for 1.5 hrs, no questions asked and officer came back with documents and wished me good luck
4. I took directions from him to Buffello airport and came back on a snow day.
I crossed the border at Niagara

What is the treatment at the Buffalo INS office.
