Will Visitor Visa Extension create problems?

My mother-in-law came on a single entry visitor visa. She was given 6months stay at port of entry.
I am planning to file an extension.
My question is if I file an extension now (for 3 months) will she have problems when she applies for a visitor visa in Chennai next time.

It depends.

If she plans to go home after this and stay there for six months or more, she won't have a problem. If filing for visitor's visa extensions or returning after short absences from the US to request lengthy periods of admission is a pattern, she will have a problem because it will look like she lives in the US on visitor's documents. It is all in the context. Her travel pattern of the last few years, not just that one visit, ought to be taken into consideration in the application process.
