Will there still be DV18 onwards after the election

Hi there, i haven't been active on this forum for quite a while. For you who linger on this forum a lot you might have seen my posts. I was a dv15 selectee but got eliminated in the process due to my cn being too high due to some countries taking up most of the visas, i applied dv16 and didn't win..applied dv 17 as well and waiting for the result come may 3rd

With the US President election just around the corner. There's a pretty high chance that some wealthy anti-immigration Republican businessman will win.. If it does happen how do you think it'll impact dv in any way?

Really hope dv will still go on. Otherwise my American immigration path is blocked completely

Hello Silicon,

The quesiton is kind of complex to answer but keep in mind that president election is still far away and there is at least some level of security that DV 2018 will happen but for the rest there is no kind of security and for now I think the best is to think on the possibilities of getting it for 2017 or 2018. I started to apply for this on 2015 and dint won and I'm trying luck again. I'm waiting just like you for the results this May. There is no control from applicants on what's going to happen to this program but in the future it might get change or cancel the questions that no one can answer is when. Good Luck on this DV.

well the inauguration of the new President isn't going to happen until January of 2017, the online registration would already be finished by then so i guess that's something, however keep in mind that a bill like repelling the dv has to be approved by congress in order to pass which is not likely to happen since the dv has been around since 1990, i can get why you're concerned though, someone who is as xenophobic as trump won't really think twice about using an executive order or whatever it takes to make it harder for people to immigrate to the US. Let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best at this point lol.

That's correct and us as applicants, have no kind of control over this program and can just cross fingers that we can win the DV for 2017 or 2018. Based on my experience is that when you apply for this, keep on with your normal life and plans and if the program comes up great and if not keep on with your plans. Enjoy life and if the DV comes up great if not keep on applying while it last and keep on with your plans at your homeland, since the chance to win this is just 1% basically.

agreed.

Up to this point in the 2016 Presidential race I have not heard or seen any topics regarding legal immigration in the agenda of any of the hopefuls. Since the DV program is part of a legal immigration framework conducted by the Dept of State and properly screened by security agencies, I doubt the program will be terminated any soon.
Of course no one can look very deep into the future so as to forecast accurate enough beyond 2018... But it is reasonable to expect that immigration issues will be addressed first and foremost to illegal rather than legal, IMHO.
