My situation is a little bit complicated. I applied OPT (starting from 1/3/05) and got approved based on a phd candidacy. Our international center requested me to register each semester to keep F1 and valid OPT. I remember i registered for spring semester last Nov by phone. But our international center emailed me at the end of Jan that I didn't register. I checked with our dept and was told my registration was canceled by dept since I was not physically in my school and they didn't think I would finish my studies. I tried all the way and still couldn't register. Afraid of out of status, I filed H4 one week after (Feb 8). I emailed international center about my decision and asked if I was still in F1, but didn't get reply. Currently,I have received the receipt and the case is pending. My concern is 1) Was I out of status in Jan, 2005? 2) If I was, will i be rejected with H4 even if there is only one month gap that I didn't know? 3)Then What I should do if this happens? Is going back homecountry the only way? Will I be rejected again if I reapply H4 visa in homecountry because of this "out of status" record?
