Will I need Tax returns for the previous 3 years

Do I definitely need to bring tax returns for the past three years or will W2's be sufficient? Does the consular officer normally examine these documents? The reason is that I am having trouble locating my old tax returns, but I am able to locate the W2's. I do have the tax return for 2002.

Secondly, I would assume that they do not care about my wife's tax returns or W2 since she is sponsored on my green card as my dependent.

I will of course bring as much documentation as possible, but wanted to know what they are likely to ask for.

Normally you would be expected to carry copies of your federal
tax filings apart from the W-2s. Carry the one you have.

If you cannot locate the others, get the IRS tax transcripts for the latest 3 years. These are also OK.

If your wife is on her own H1 and earning taxable income, they may ask for her tax returns too, if she has filed independently.

IRS tax returns

You can request IRS to send transcripts for tax returns for last 10 years. There is no such requirement to produce tax returns but individuals do take it to support any question that might be asked by the consular officer.

IRS number to request transcripts: 800.829.1040

The tax transcripts can also be requested upon a visit to a local IRS office.

It will also safer to carry tax returns for your wife also though she is a dependent on your GC processing.

Thanks & Good luck.
