I have this problem,I hope someboy can give me any answer.
I got my Green Card with a spelling mistake in my last name.In august 2002 I applied for a new one.I was supposed to get the replaced I-551 with a correct last name within 6 months. I'm still waiting.
But it is not the worst. Having a Green Card I can stay outside the US for less than a year. I am a third year student in the university in Poland. so you see to continue my studies I left New York in september 2002. I am in Warsaw now,but I want to come back to New York in 3 months. But I still didn't get my plastic Green Card. I know I have a stamp with my A# in my passport, but can anybody tell me I won't get into trouble with an immigration officer at the airport? I can't imagine a situation he or she will say:"you are not allowed to enter the US because of the lack of the physical plastic!" . The only thing I can show them is a copy of my green card with a mistake in my last name.
Can anybody give me some kind of information?

aneta,
Logiclly speaking, you shouldn't have any problem with your case. You have the copy of the plastic card, you have A# on your passport which is valid for a year. Anyway,to be sure, call/e-mail(better option) US consulate in Poland and ask them, you might get some reliable info !!!! also, don't forget to keep the correspondence(s) with US consulate in Poland.
cheers!!
