Hi everyone!

I got my green card through a work-based petition (as a nurse) and I've been in the US for approx 7 months in a year. Most of the time it's from January to July or August, then I go back to Singapore for 4 to 5 months to take care of my sick father. Then the following year, it's the same pattern. From Jan to July/Aug, my sister is in Singapore and can take care of him (so I can work here in the US), but I have to be with him in the later parts of the year.

Next year I become eligible to file for citizenship. What are my chances? I have no doubt they'll ask me why I stay out of the country for periods of time, but do you think I'll get denied? I never stayed out for more than 6 months at a time & I would have spent more than 30 months in the US for sure. I pay taxes, own a car, pay my phone bill and keep an apartment which I sublease for 5 months/yr when I'm gone.

Please tell me if I will have problems for citizenship. Any input would help. Thanks!

You should have a good case provided you haven't been out of the US for more than 180 days in any single trip, and have accumulated at least 900 days physical presence in the US over the past 5 years.

Being able to show continuity of ties to the US (rent, car, taxes, etc) will significantly help smooth any quastions arising from your repeated trips abroad.

LIKE SAID U SHOULD BE OK AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A GOOD MORAL CHARACTER MEANING NO CRIMINAL RECORDS AND YOU DIDN'T STAY OUTSIDE THE US FOR MORE THAN 180 IN A SINGLE TRIP...YOU WILL BE FINE ..

i'm not a laywer only my opinion so please act accordingly.

Technically you should be OK to get citizenship. But, be prepared for some tough questioning. A good option would be to hire an immigration attorney to go with you for the interview. Good luck.
