Will EAD over ride the H-1 automatically ?

I am on H-1 now . If I apply EAD card for myself , does it mean I reliquish
my H-1 status automatically ? My understand is that only when you use
EAD for a job. But I read some post in this board stating that after get EAD, you lost your H-1 status automatically. Please clear this

when you sign this form with any employer

that will put you on EAD and cancel H1.
