Will a visit to Malaysia affect visa?

My dad, in his 60s, has visited us twice here in the States. Now he can have a sightseeing tour to Malaysia. Somebody said visiting it (no offense, an Islamic country) will affect future B1/B2 application.

Any experience or comments? Thanks.

Sorry, this not going to help you... but I think that all American's currently in Iraq need to be investigated before being allowed back in as well. Who knows who they may have been hanging out with over there? Plus, I hear that Islam is highly contagious.

If they cannot let a 60 year old man come visit his son/daughter because he has been traveling to places 'disapproved' of, then I don't know what next.

To be fair, you only 'heard' of the possibility of problems with future visitor visa applications, and nothing has been denied as yet... but it just makes me mad that we seriously consider these things lest we make one small misstep!

I miss my dad (God rest his soul), but I can clearly see what he would have done. He was never one to put life on hold for anyone. I hope I never do, either.

There should be no problem. The only really problematic country would be Cuba, but only for people who apply for citizenship.

Shouldn't be a problem unless he is actually a resident of one of the countries on the State Department's list of black listed countries.

Even then, though the security measures are more stringent they should not affect his ability to get a visa. Specially considering he is over 60 and has been to the US before, and never overstayed his I-94!

As Niladri put it so aptly, neve put your life on hold for anything.
