Hi,

We are on h1/4. My wife changed her last name while she was in US and got a new passport from Indian Embassy. The old passport is also attached with the new passport, and has a seal from the embassy stating that it has been cancelled due to name change (marriage)

Do we need to get her a new H4? Is her old H4 stamped on her now cancelled passport still valid? I called the US consulate in India and they said it should be valid but didn't want to issue a letter confirming the same....

Please advise.. Should we get a new H4???

Thanks in advance.

You don't need new H4 stamp. She is fine.

Is there any INS doc mentioning this? Wondering if we should carry a copy of it just in case....

You just need to keep both the passport. Since the old passport has the visa stamp, you would need it in the future for travelling or H-4 revalidation after expiring her first 3 years or H4 etc.

Thanks to all - we traveled on her old visa and no had problems at all

So - grateful that we didnt go thru the trouble of getting a new H4 stamp :)
