My wife went for her H4 visa interview at Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 10th (I am from my Sri Lanka), and I gave her all the documents including original I-797, copy of my H1 stamp, I-129, paystubs, W-2 forms, bank statements, employer letter, tax forms, wedding album and etc.

I don't work for a consultant, and I work directly for leading firm in the US.

We got married on June 15th, 2007, but since it was an arranged marriage, I didn't have all my documents for her to apply for visa immediately.

When my wife went to the consulate, the VO asked her only when we got married, and why she is coming after 3 months to apply for the visa. My wife explained the situation that I needed time to get all documents together. VO officer asked for my original I-797 and visa stamp. She took photocopies of that, and returned them to my wife but kept my wife's passport and DS-157, and gave her GREEN 221 (g) form telling her that the consulate will call her and then she should return.

The VO didn't even ask or look at any other documents.

It has been 3 weeks, and we haven't heard anything. I was wondering whether anyone out there has similar experience (especially anyone from sri lanka).

Thanks
Roy

Good news: visa approved

My wife who went to the consulate on Oct 10th, finally received her H4 visa yesterday (December 11th). The passport was in the consulate for about 8 weeks.

We had called the consulate after 6 weeks, but we got the usual 'in process' reply. But after that, we didn't contact the consulate, and just waited. My wife had also got the 221(g) form during her initial visit.

If everything is in order, the visa will most probably get approved, it is a matter of being patient (I understand it is a frustrating time, but we can't do anything else).

Good luck to all.
