hello,
my wife and i married when she was a student, and the 485 package is processing well. we've received work authorization card and still waiting on GC.
my wife and i are considering living in her home country, china, which does not support dual citizenship. i've found that citizenship may take an additional 3 yrs for her to receive after obtaining the GC.
we're concerned if she gets US citizenship, then we can not put the common needs (car, house, possible loans) under her name if we were to live in china. also, i believe we would both need a visa (rather than just me) at that point to live in china together.
we're wondering can we change her 485 processing to yield us a marriage visa instead or some other approach to meet our needs? we've paid everything of course for the 485 package, and we feel at a loss if we just leave and not use the GC. in naivety, we didn't realize that she couldn't hold the GC and her home country's citizenship and we choose to live in either location (traveling annually to visit family in either place).
i'm thinking that a marriage visa for my wife would suit our situation better, assuming she can hold that while we live in china and use it when we visit the american side of our family.
thank you for your time and sharing of knowledge for our situation; we really appreciate the help on this!
