So my wife has received her green card through our marriage back in 2012. We are planning to apply for her citizenship now in 2019. Should we consider her the 5 years category, or the 3 years category (thru marriage with US citizen)? I think she has to pick up as far as the application is concerned. Either way she exceeded the years required, but just thinking whether there is advantage going one way or the other. thank you all!!

Go with the 5-year category
Advantage: lesser documentation than the 3-yr marriage to a USC category which requires evidence of living in marital status, ie spouse documents.
