Hi all, I have a question. My GC was approved a while back (I posted the message here, June \'01 RD).

We have not changed my wife\'s last name to my last name. She has got her maiden name on passport and Green Card. Currenltly she is pregnent.

I have a question. Will there be any problem in getting my last name to my child becaue we didn\'t change my wife\'s last name? Any experiences in this matter are greatly welcome.

No problem

Thats ok man! Its common for women to have their maiden names in passport and GC and still their children can be named with father\'s last name. All my friends did the same. SO DON\'T WORRY!!!

Changing Wife\'s Last name is a big Hazzle - I too did not do it- Just name your child with your las

Changing wife\'s last name is not a big hassle

My green card got approved with my wife\'s old last name. Once it got approved, while stamping we applied for her name change. $130 fees and process was easy and quick. Only document needed was marriage certificate. At that time she did not change her last name on passport. Afterwards I got my plastic card and a receipt for her application for name change. According to the receipt it takes 2-3 months to get her plastic card. All this was done with 15 mins of extra effort during stamping.

One week after stamping we changed her name on passport in NY it took just 1 day. Guys better do it before you file for 485.

Changing her name on bank records, credit cards, driving license and social security was all done in 2 days.

Is this a big hassle? Please do not spread wrong info unless you have experience with it.

No Title

Thanks Guys, If it is not a problem, why to change her last name? Anyway, she will include my name in her passport (spouse\'s name on the last page). If it is needed, I will do so.

My stamping was already done and we have received the plastic cards as well.

By default when a child is born in this country, they will have father\'s last name unless otherwise specified. Wife\'s name is not a problem at all(I have experience in this since my wife\'s last name differs too). I dont think its worth the time to change \'coz you are not gaining anything, maybe our spouses feel a lot independent by having their own last name. Think like that and you will not worry

Thanks
