My wife passed the interview today at Cincinnati. She was scheduled for 10:40am but was called at 11:50am. First he verified the passport, GC info and then went over the N-400 application. Then he asked 10 questions which were all correct followed by English sentence test.

The interesting thing is that when he was going thru the N-400 application and the Spousal section came up, he asked her when I was scheduled for the interview. She told him that I haven’t received the IL yet. He then said that he can check my status. Then he checked his system and told her that I’m still in the background check. He said it would take a maximum of 6 months for me. He even looked up my GC application and mentioned that it took them 9 months to complete my background check at that time. That’s very interesting!!!! He also gave her a “Immigration Security Checks“ document which is also at this link http://www.uscis.gov/files/pressrelease/security_checks_42506.pdf (I found it when I searched for it) highlighting the FBI Name Check section on page 2.

She got the interview results form with 2 lines checked – Congratulations and USCIS will send you a written decision about your application.

He told her that she should be seeing the Oath Letter in 1 – 2 months.

Its funny – I had called the USCIS today hoping that I might get transferred to an IO. But the cust rep refused and told me to make an Infopass if I needed more info. I didn’t know that my wife’s interview will kind’a be an infopass for me!

I will wait till whenever …. I don’t think about the IL all day except when I get my mail from the mailbox, I get optimistic I might see a letter from USCIS.

^Thats very scary! I thought USCIS wait for the backgroud check to be completed before they can send out an IL.

Yes, they do. I am waiting for my background check and haven't yet received my IL. My wife went for her interview...

LegalAlien2, congratulations for your wife!
would you interpret that as 6 months from today, from PD or from when the background check was initiated? i didn't know that there was a 6 months max. timeline for the checks?!?!

congrats

congrats to legalalien2(wife)

My PD is 04/07 and my wife got her IL in (09/07) and she became citizen on 12/07. I am still waiting

I do not think there is any rule on how long background check will take. It can take a couple of years. Although I do wait for the IL something tells me it is going to take a long time and we should get on with our life. It will come whenever it has to come. No point in getting frustrated as there is no use of it anyway.

I hope your background check comes through in 6 months as your wife's interview officer has told.

Regards

The IO also told my wife that it DOES take longer for MEN to clear the name/background check. That explains why many of our better halves got their ILs. :D

There are no clear cut rules with USCIS as far as the timelines are concerned ... there are guidelines and then more importantly there are the statistics. The statistics mentioned in the document (the IO gave my wife) state that 80% cases clear their name check fairly quickly, 20% clear within 6 months and about 1% take longer than 6 month. This 1% has NO MAX timeframe. Hopefully, we're not in the 1% lot!
