We just received our GC but my wife received an job offer from a good international school. She is leaning toward taking it as it would help her career. She might work there for couple of years and likely will spend the summer in US. We don't have intention to abandon the GC and I will still live and work in US most of time except traveling oversea to visit her. We own our house and for sure will file our tax return as normal. I understand that she would need re-entry permit and possible returning resident visa. Does anyone know what is the possibility of my wife's green card got revoked even if we do all of that? Our main concern is that she might need to work at the international university for couple of years.

Thanks

She should get a reentry permit, but forget about the returning resident visa because that visa is for when you already spent a year or more outside the US due to unexpected circumstances and you don't have a reentry permit.

With you remaining in the US and keeping the house (I assume her name is on the title and/or mortgage?) and continuing to file US taxes including putting her foreign income on the US tax return, and she having a reentry permit, she shouldn't have a problem keeping her green card while away for a couple of years.

However, the time spent abroad may set back her eligibility for US citizenship, as the continuous residence requirements for naturalization are more strict, and employment abroad with a foreign company or institution is generally a big no-no for citizenship.
