wierd story - help.

I have sent my passport for visa renewal to the state department on august 26th. I still haven't heard anything from them yet.
Today I heard my friend who sent his passport in mid-september got his visa renewed. The worrying thing is, his passport was sent to some company in Iowa (whereas my friend has nothing to do with Iowa). That company's HR person was gracious enough to locate him and FedEx his passport to him. This is not only ridiculous but out-right scary.
Can anyone please provide a phone number which I can call to query the status of my visa renewal? I really appreciate it. Thanks.

press 1 and 0. you have to wait atleast 30 mins to the representative on line.
they will ask your lastname, date of birth, passport number
then you will get your DC recd date.
