Kid,
People have already told you that if you have problem getting credit it is because of your lack of job record, not because immigration. Can you get a job and start building up credit history? Or you can get a secure credit card and make all your payments on time. In about one year or so you will get some very best credit offers.
Just stop whining about your immigration status becasue it has nothing to to with credit. Even if you walk with a passort, some banks might turn in down because you have no record, OK??????
So do not make your life make your life more complex than it is.

I am sure LA has more than one bank. Can you shop around????????
Why are you so obsessed with what one low-level bank clerk told you??????
People other than myself have told you that they do get unsecured credit cards, kid. Think about it, if what you were saying is true, it would have been reported somewhere. Do not think you would discover it first.
Have a nice weekend, kid.

Kelvin2088,
May I suggest that you go to different banks and see if you can get credit there? You can even apply on the Internet these days.
Again, there is no "new policy" with respect to this

Guys,l
This kid just does not get it, regardless of how many people explaining their experience . He is obsessed with one encounter with a confused bank clerk. It is a waste of time trying to reason with and help this kid find his way in the US. I would suggest that we stop addressing this topic because we know that asylee status is not an impediment to getting credit in the US.
So just ignore this kid.
Maybe they didn`t like your face or they didn`t trust you.I have a friend who has been in the US since 12/01 he applied for cc in 01/02 he got it he even got a car.You may need to try to get a secured cc,use it for a while then you will be able to get an unsecured cc after building your credit.Don`t put yourself in too much stress. Many of us were not using cc in our countries until we came in the US.Originally posted by kelvin2088
ur guys credit record must be built before 911
i mean for asylum who just start to build the credit after 911
It is difficult when for 93 year old grandma with replaced hip. Still I would take her to DMV, if I did not find a bank, which accepted passport as valid ID(Apple bank)Originally posted by dangdang

I for some reason doubt that this kid is working.Originally posted by meLIBERTY2
You just have to be good about paying it back and on time, or pay in full every month. As long as you are immigrant, which asylee's are you should qualify for a credit card, as long as you earn money (which I assume you do)
Don't apply for the low APR or Platinum cards (coz you won't get it) . Open a credit account and keep it for 3 years. After that you credit rating should improve, and you'll qualify for low APR's.
Today I have a platinum card, AMEX, and I pay zero interest on my car , but it took a 3 year wait and a good payment record.
Like our pending 485s, good things come to those who wait.
