Why Two different Receipt Dates?

Hi All
Our I-485 (Mine and my wife's) were filed in TSC and received recipt date notices of Aug 14th in mail. Yesterday when I went to check the status online in the USCIS website it is saying that TSC have received the application on 10th Oct.
Now my question is why are there two receipt dates by the same Texas Service Center when my application never even got transfered from any other Service center.

Your RD is shown in your receipt notice. The date in your case status is sometimes different.

Thanks Prom, but if they two dates differ then which one should be considered as the correct receipt date?
