Why There Is a Long Silence?

Hi All,

Got the following email nearly about 3 and half months before

“On July 13, 2006, we transferred your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status to our office in LINCOLN, NE for them to schedule and conduct your interview. Scheduling can take several months. Our office in LINCOLN, NE will notify you when they schedule your interview or take other action on your case.”
There is a long silence from NSC. Not even a single notification saying that they received the physical file from VSC. Is there anybody who has the similar experience?

Hi magdu,

It was almost 4 months after we got that message that we heard from NSC that they received the case.

One of the following things probably caused them to trace our cases.
1. Upgrade 140 to PP and got approval. They probably looked for our 485 cases at that time.
2. Submitted a service request for my case -> my case got updated as received. But my spouse's was not received, though that was the primary case.
3. Spouse called and spoke to NSC that primary case was not updated. One knowledgeable rep told that only parts of his file were transferred and he submitted a request to transfer rest of them. The same day we got received message for that case also.

So now after 4 months, both cases have been received and entered in the NSC system.

How to reach NSC with EAC # to know about the current status of our I-485 files? any idea?

Your wait at the district office may be anywhere from 3 to 24 months before you get an interview. Poongunranar waited around 2 years in Atlanta. GHEBAUER's case was transferred in February 2005, and he is still waiting in Miami. Your wait time is highly dependant on the district office where you get transferred to.

Keep in mind it takes about 2-3 months just "transfer" the physical files, prior to them actually "arriving" at the district office. You will not get a notice saying the files were recieved. The NCSC will not tell you over the phone either. The only way you can find out that info is by scheduling an InfoPass and going in person to the district office.

Thanks for the thread you provided.

It is not a district office. Our file got transferred to LINCOLN, NE which is regional center like VSC, CSC, TSC

Hi madgu,

You might want to clarify if your case has gone to NSC or to local office. I dont think they schedule interview with the NSC. My message was a little different from yours, in that it did not mention about interview. So you probably want to either call them or take Infopass and clarify if your case has gone to NSC or district office. With local offices, its difficult to track the case...its what I have heard.

As far as getting to NSC, I used my 140 LIN number to get to NSC and then ask about the 485 which was a SRC.

Good luck

What is the nearest district office to you? It looks to Lincoln District office not NSC.

then what is Lincoln, NE???? My nearest office is Newark, NJ

initially even we thought our case went to district office because it said Lincoln, NE instead of NSC. Then we called multiple times to clarify that.

You probably want to call NSC and see if your case is there and also take an infopass to confirm it.

Thanks for your suggestion. So long I was under the impression that Lincoln, NE(Nebraska) office means NSC (like the office at st.Albans, Vermont - VSC). Why would VSC send my file to Nebraska local office if I live in East coast. Moreoever my nearest local office (ASC) is Newark, NJ. Now I am really confused. My attorney has sent a letter to NSC to know the status of our 485 file in the first week of Oct. 2006 and there is no response from NSC till today.

I will call NSC next week.
