Why pay Medicare and SSN Tax

Hi Guys,

Though this must be answered in the past, but couldn't find the answer, so asking.

On H1-B one is scheduled to stay max of 6 years and Medicare is mainly used for post retirement expenses, thus why H1-B visa resident needs to pay for it.


Really appreciate your effort in clarifying my doubt.
 
It is the US law and if you choose to work here, you have no choice but to follow the law. The thinking is that all taxpayers pay into a pool so that it benefits everyone who is eligible. Remember that not everyone gets paid according to their contribution (the poor benefit more than the rich).

Having said that, when I worked in Japan for years, after I finally left the country, all my contributions were given back to me in a giant check.
