I've been lurking around this forum for about 6 weeks. I came here looking for answers as I was getting tired of the "wait and see" answers from my employers HR department and the company sponsored law firm.
I got off to a bad start in Dec. 2001 when my I-485 receipt was returned by the USPS as undeliverable. I believe this was simply a problem with mail delivery, that occurs from time to time, in my condominium. It wasn't until March 2002, that my lawyer made a call to get me a receipt number. Since then, the status message has been the same. The message informs me that the receipt was returned as undeliverable.
Are others also seeing their status not updated? This concerns me. What if I have another notice returned as undeliverable and my status isn't updated? How will I know that something has gone wrong?
Yesterday I called the BCIS for the first time. The IIO (immigration information officer? can't find a glossary with this acronym) said she didn't know how the status message is updated. That wasn't much help. All I got from the phone call is that they are currently working on cases with receipt date of 11/01/2000. Of course, I already knew that thanks to this web site. This is a terrific web site and forum. It was a blessing for me to find out about AC21 as my company has just gone through a layoff. I think I escaped the bullet, but it was less stressful knowing that I have options.
