Hi:

My wife's interview was scheduled in May, 2005 by the USCIS TX center. Last week, local USCIS office (Memphis) sent her a mail and told her that the interview has been cancelled and it would be rescheduled after the backgroud clearance completed. Does anybody know what the "Backgroud Clearance" means. Is it the same as Name Check (BTW, I called FBI today for FP status and was told that her result was sent to USCIS in Feb) It seems that a lot of people had interview BEFORE their Name Check finishied? Why the local office wants to cancel her interview? Does anybody have idea what is going on? I called FBI at the number found on this forum (202-324-3625) to check my wife's name check status. A lady told me that I can only request by email and it will take about 16 WEEKS. Is it the only way to check status now?

Thank you very much for any help.

Lots of things can happen.
One situation is where the USCIS office schedule is critically short of personnel and the one handling your case becomes unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances.
There can be situations too where material facts related to your case just happened to be discovered where more adjudication time is warranted before an interview can be scheduled again. Each case is different and one has to be handled differently.

196111: Thank you very much for your post. My wife never has any trouble in USA. I do not know why her case needs more time. Anywhere, is there anyway to find it out?

Newman,
You can either schedule an infopass appointment and go to the district office in memphis, or you can wait till you go to the district office for your interview in May, and after the interview inquire about your wife's case from the interviewing officer.
