All,

I am new to I-485 forum. I have filed for I-485 from Nebraska Service Center and I am presently in Vermont Service Centre. I am am also planning to get married soon.

What is actually case transfer and why is it done? In my case is there a possibility my case will be transfered, if yes, to which local INS office, one in NSC or one in VSC?

Does it delay the case, if yes, by how many months?

Thank You,

who knows why

I dont think there's any one particular reason..... I've heard job change and marriage within 1-2 years of I485 filing are possible causes....

It can be transferred for their mistakes too. There is a rule in INS(BCIS) that if your fingerprints are rejected twice, then will transfer your case to the local office for speedier processing:-)
That's what happened to my wife's case. Her case should have been approved with mine a year and a half back but unfortunately her case was transferred and it's lying in some corner of the chicago office. It is because they could not get her fingerprints right
