Why do people immigrate from India to Canada??

I have already seen many posts on this board from Indian computer programmers with H1B visas in USA, who are also trying to push through for Canadian immigration. Why are they trying so hard to make sure they are able to stay in North America?

From what I heard, India is a pretty cool country with good opportunities for IT professionals, a rich culture, spicy cuisine, and a much warmer climate. Why are all these people so desperate to remain either in USA or Canada?

Does anyone know??

Thanks,

Alfaris

Better Life Style, Research oriented Environment are reasons.

Better Life Style, Research Oriented Environment, Better Government Policies are reasons to immigrate in Western countires.

and Western countries also want to use the brain of immigrants.
For example, Canada wants to be prosper like USA by immigrating people with higher IQs.

Actually, I am more interested in hearing why OTHER countries' citizens are interested in immigrating to north america. From what I hear there is plenty of oil in the gulf and plenty of resources in most other countries including africa. India on the other hand is over populated and lacks raw resources !

Despite India's significant progress in science, it remained a very very poor country. Overall living condition is very low compare to Canada. Poor communication infracture, frequent power outage, no healthcare system, severe corruption, among other things make live very difficult in general. So, once landed in the US the main priority becomes to stay permanently or make sure that way of coming back is open. India is a third world country and therefore it is very hard to travel using Indian passport as you would need visa for pretty much every country in the World. These are some of the reasons why staying and becoming Citizens in the North America is so important.

I think the reasons are:

1. Your income can buy more stuff here in Canada/US.
2. You are able to work and advance in your profession.
3. Democratic societies (as opposed to Gulf and African countries).
4. Both countries offer long term staying opportunities.
5. Educational opportunities, excellent university system. In India it is almost impossible to get into a good university.
6. Lots of Indians have already made Canada/US their homes and therefore it is easier to continue the involvement in Indian culture. There are some excellent Indian restaurants too!
7. More respect back home.

because

Its just like home. You feel at home only in USA and Canada. Its impossible in Europe or Scarabia. US and (Canada too) called nation of nations. Infact Canadian immigration is more genuine and talent based and regarded as best in the world by educated in the outside world. Where as India is developing (rapidly) country and slowly becoming free market and getting into private entreprenuership. It takes time to become rich again, since Brits sucked up all the blood from India for 200 years. All the wealth in England, including diamonds in Queens crown are stolen from India. According to Economist(brit magazine), by 17 th century half of the global production was from India and China combined.
By 18th Century, India's GDP was one third of global GDP(like USA).
British thugs slowly killed all the industries in India and made dependent on British industries. Indians were forced to buy from match box to Condom fromEngland.
They made India illeterate, and left like dead land. There was no electricity, no hospitals, no schools, since they were not British scums self interest.Literacy was only 11 percent when Brits left India.
Now India is different, in 50 years it came so far. Literacy is 65 percent. India makes highest number of engineers more than China -Korea combined. There is no near number two as far as engineers and scientists are concern. But other side we have all the equipment and all the reciepe but we dont know how to cook.
Thats why we want reliable friends like USA and Canada. Thats why we are joining Civilized western world like USA. Its win-win situation. We (Indians) looking for better life and USA or Canada looking for highly educated Indians. India is proven loyal friend, ask any Russian they call Indians as brothers. Where we had only strong diplomatic ties, but when it comes to USA and Canada we not only have strong diplo ties(improving) but we have very very strong people to people relationship. Which is much more stronger that diplomatic relationship. There are numerous cross marriages too.
As GDP of India grows studily, the per capita might grow rapidly too. In 50 years, if you can imagine India nad China will be super rich nations,. Don't you think USA and Canada need alliance with India. As I mentioned it is Win-Win. As you asked reverse migration might start after 20-3X years as thing improve back at home. Or the trend will be Indians might stay at both places like Israelis, or may be both. Its hard to predict people's interests.

India is now the fourth largest economy in the world, ahead of any European nation and Canada. Only China, Japan and US are ahead. I am not sure what economic criteria was used to come to this conclusion.

I would say from any economical yardstick that measures an individual economic value. Remember every national measure should be divided by the number of people sharing it.

A simple measure not available from the eco-metrics but easily calculated by a layman is the ratio of how much you earn to how much you spend on food. Other ones may be earnings to the value of a 1 week vacation ? If you earn $5K/mo and you take a 1 week vacation say in France for $1000, then the ratio is 5. In India, a similar pay (comparing mean) may be Rs15000 and the vacation of Rs 50000 gives me a fractional number !
