Why do food service companies hire illegal immigrants for counter work?

I just went to order a sandwich today and was shocked that the person taking the order couldn't even answer what came on the sandwich. This is America, for heaven's sake. You would think that a customer service person could speak English. It's not like the person was out in the fields picking beans or something, right?

Your posts made you sound like an angry H1 applicant or the family member of that applicant who was affected by the retrogression and not being able to qualify for the Guest worker program if it is to be passed... What made you think that a non-English speaker is naturally an illegal immigrant? And come on, legal or not, they probably get paid min wage at those food places. Cut them some slack will ya?
