Why bank statement is required?

For filing I-48 my lawyer needs me to get a letter from my bank which should mention the amount in my bank on specific date.

1. Why do I need to submit this letter?
2. How does it effect my application?
2. How much money is safe to have in my account?

I suppose you mean I-485, not I-48?

This forum is for those who have their green cards approved or almost approved and have questions about getting and using the physical card ... not for questions about filing the I-485. Ask your question in one of the "I-485 issues" forums and I will have an answer for you.
 
The only bank statement my lawyer ask me for is in the event my husband and I had a joint account so we can probe we have a bona fide marriage, I am the benefitiary of a employment based petition and he is my derivative
