Who or what is a Sponsor? Please HELP???

I just stumbled on this great forum and have been reading tons of threads thoroughly all day. Thanks very much for sharing all the wealth of information and experiences!

I'm in the process of filing for a J-1 visa waiver of the 212(e) 2 year rule through a hired immigration lawyer and would apply based on NOLs received from my home country and the US college I received a tuition scholarship from. In the course of my reading different threads on here, I keep coming across, "Sponsor Views". Would someone please explain who a Sponsor is and it's role.

And I desperately need help with my statement of reason; can someone please give me some pointers or some form of template? I'm so stressed I can't even think straight or get my brains to function right, :eek:

I believe that your sponsor is likely to be the organization that appears on your original DS-2019 or IAP-66 form. If you are a Fulbright scholar, it is the department of State.
