Hi all,

I'm looking at the DV instructions and i found following info on the interview process
and DV winner's relatives.

http://travel.state.gov/content/vis...-visa/interview/visa-applicant-interview.html

Who Must Attend the Interview?

You, your spouse, and any qualified unmarried children immigrating with you must participate in the interview. If your spouse and/or qualified unmarried children will immigrate at a later date and travel separately from you, they are not required to participate in your interview. They will be scheduled for a separate interview appointment. You should contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate directly to arrange separate interviews, if needed.

From what I have been reading on the forum so far I learnt that all applicants have to be
interviewed with the winner (failing to bring them in might even lead to application rejection - there were
some posts on such cases), however quoted section indicates that family member
can be interviewed at later stage.

What's the proper process, then?

If you specified that you familly will follow to join later, than they will be interviewed later on separately !
But. They still have to do it before the 30th september.
This is the only case where the derivative have a different interview than the principal.

The proper process is what you read on the official website.

Thanks Vladek, I understand that this is related to these sections from form 230 we had to fill in for 2014:
31a. Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will accompany you to the United States now.
31b. Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will follow you to the United States at a later date.
so your explanation makes perfect sense.

It would definitely help having these DV instructions more verbose ...

Hi mates what if i indicate my family wil join me later date and they fail to secure visa before september 30? because i saw in the above thread that failure to secure a visa before sep 30 u wil be denied. and what if am schedule for an interview as the principle applicant the last week of sep?

The instructions are very clear - DV visas, whether for the principal or derivatives, can only be issued until 30 September. If your family have not got their visa by 30 September they lose out on DV derivative status. Assuming you do have your visa in time, you would then have to go to the US, and once you are an LPR file separately for them under the relevant family category, which will take a lot of time and cost a lot of money; as well, you will have to show you can support them when filing that petition. It may be a better idea for you to get all the visas together before 30 Sept, you will have 6 months to activate them (by entering the US) and another year to move over permanently.

Than your family will lose out!
