who is the client

I would like you guys to give me your take on this.

Who is the client of the attorney in a GC application given that the company footed the bill?
I ask this on account of having received my approval notice last week. However the efficient BCIS forwarded me the 'courtesy' notice whilst giving the attorney the orginal. Upon contacting the attorney with regards to the notice, he said he forwarded it to my company HR, because they are the client and he always follows this procedure. Finally a week has gone by and my company is yet to forward it to me even though promised. I believe they are holding out on account me me not signing an acceptance to the amended immigration procedures - long and complicated issue regarding prior contracts and other legal issues which I didn't accept and hence didn't sign....

So, I figured I will wait till monday, perhaps its in the mail, otherwise i am contemplating legal advice

Your attorney might have filled the form G-28(Notice of Appearance as Attorney) and your company representative might have signed on it.
In that form he would have put the company name as the petitioner and your name as the beneficiary. So the company is the client in this case.
However the approval notice belongs to you and they cannot keep it.

You really

would never need the original approval letter. The copy that you received is more than enough for stamping!!!!

Ofcourse the company is the client because they are paying for you.....

sickoffit,
Why you need original notice? Still you can go to visa stamping with 'coutesy copy'. With in 2-4 months you are going to get Green card. I am not seeing any reason why we need original one.

Sometimes a person with a stamp(I-551) has to go thru. a secondary inspection at the airport upon arrival at POE. There a approval notice may be required to prove validity. Also in cases when one might lose his passport etc. and has to go for a re-stamp etc. an approval notice might be necessary.
So it is always important to keep your approval notice handy.

What's the difference between 'courtesy' and the original notice? I thought they are essentially the same (not a photocopy).

Courtesy notice should be sufficient for all purposes.

You are right! There is no difference between the courtesy copy and the original.
But the courtesy copy is handed to USCIS upon stamping, so it is not available after that. Hence I was suggesting keeping the original notice.

The original notice is basically your property. You should get it. But wait, dont jump the gun. Mail takes time.

You may need the original in case you travel out of the country before your card comes to you. Another country may not let you leave without your notice as further proof of US permenant residency. The stamp in the passport is a piece of crap which no one would acknowledge. It does not even have "United States on it". In short it looks dicey.

From what you mentioned about your company are they the Tekwood group?

this mention on the courtesy copy that the original is required for stamping. I was about to take the courtesy copy and catch the queue last week, but after reading it again, i noticed the above mentioned note.
