To members who answered "ERP market is no good",

Why you think like that?? Are you working/have worked in ERP?? As per me,ERP consultants fetch best rates in IT industry.

Not necessarily so. I work in Data Warehousing, and its easier for our company to find ERP people than DW people. More people are looking to enter DW than ERP atleast where I work, and DW in general is more challenging than ERP. More brain work involved.

Besides even if ERP is hot in one location today, corporations would import more people and equilibrium would be reached soon.

Guys ERP is real HOT!! We are trying to find Oracle Consultant for last 2 weeks, none is ready to work for less than $80 an hour.

oracle?

i found it interesting that, at this point, oracle is leading sap in the poll. how come? our company is going through a major sap implementation right now, and and one of the factors that decided our management to go sap over others, including oracle manufacturing/apps, was because sap was the market leader.

question to those who voted for oracle, would you like to give some more insights into your choice? since peoplesoft is listed as a separate head, exactly what area of oracle are we talking about?

thanks!

Though technically peoplesoft is now owned by oracle, its still different ERP product. And peoplesoft will stay for atleast next 5+yrs as seperate product offering(as per Oracle's promise), Thats why I listed peoplesoft as ERP option.

Can you send me rates for various ERP skills? That will help better. I think ETL/DW (Ab Initio )is hot too. But, so is OO archiect position. Can anyone give ETL billing rates?

SAP might be the world market leader. But many companies implementing ERP for the first time tends to tilt towards Oracle Applications. That is bcoz of Oracle's edge on database and flexibility for customizations.

I have voted for Oracle because i have seen some people working in that field are getting big rates and lot of offers all the time. Even a fresh bee from india is getting placed within a couple of days and earning big money. I do not know the rates.

The rates depend heavily on the job location. They are very high in NY/NJ area and CA, but may be less in other states.
For example, a DW consultant (GC holder) can demand around $70 to $75/hr in NY/NJ area, but he can't get more than $55/hr in most of the areas like Virginia, Atlanta etc.

dsatish, What about Oracle DBA?? Are they better of than ERP consultant?? whats your take?? And does Apps DBA has long run/better rate compare to functional guys??

I do not know about Apps DBA but a normal Oracle DBA is no longer hot. Their salaries are good and stable, but there are not many new jobs in that skill set.

Oracle may be picking up but SAP is still going strong! :D

Looks like Oracle is the winner (in this poll) and peoplesoft is the loser. It's not surprising that Oracle swallowed Peoplesoft :D

oracle!

considering my job title involves oracle, this is good news for me! although sap, when it rolls in in our organization, it willl swallow up a lot of standalone oracle applications, but i imagine that there will be need for other downstream in the future apps that feed into sap. that's just speaking for my own organization.

another question for you guys: are oracle developers still a hot commodity? if so, pl/sql oriented or java/j2ee oriented? share your opinions!

One out of every one Indain came to this country since 1997/98 is an Oracle DBA. So please don't even talk about Oracle DBA. It is saturated. As far as Customised appicaltions like Peoplesoft/Oracle financials/SAP are concerned, they are less in numbers. The number of openings are less compared to WebLogic/WebSphere/Web Infrastructure Engineer or a J2EE developer. Let me give a nice exapmple. The company I work is a non banking financial institution. It has around 1500 out of 4500 employees. We have People Soft applications in some areas like HR/Payroll. But the there are only 20 out of 1500 software engineers working in PeopleSoft area. As far as rates are concerned as somebody said they are dependent TOATALLY I REPEAT TOTALLY on the area. Please do not through your opinions as generalised opinions to fool others. As far I believe it all depends on your individual talent and the how you sell yourself in the market. There are so many factors in getting the correct rate for the hot skills.

members, who voted Others or ERP no good,
